For 2018, I thought it might be helpful and insightful for others if I began chronicling my quest to become healthier, from the inside out. So with that, this 43 year old is going to give blogging a whirl. You many need to bear with me as I learn the ropes and fine tune my online voice and style. Feedback is always welcome on what I can do to improve the topics, content, and style of this blog so it remains in the best interest of the community.

My goal, and really my passion is to help others improve their health from the inside out so they can live life to the fullest, and enjoy a long and prosperous life alongside their friends and families. Since I’m just starting the journey to improve from the “inside out” – please join me on what will be an exciting, and I’m sure at times challenging, journey!

A bit about me…. I’m 43, and have exercised consistently since I was about 13 – primarily weight training. I consider myself relatively healthy, at least from an external perspective. I’m 5’10, 175 lbs.

Healthy Foods – A Great Start to Improving Overall Health!

I’ve been a big dairy consumer and moderate meat-eater for all of my life. I also LOVE sweets! So with age I’m beginning to see some health issues. I definitely lack the energy that I had just a few years ago. This can perhaps be attributed to diet, but I also feel lack of quality sleep is a contributor. One of my other goals for 2018 is to increase consistent, quality sleep and to at least 7 hours a night. This may be my biggest challenge, considering our 1 and 3 year olds!

My Cholesterol is high @ 262, with an LDL of 187 (very high!). HDL of 52 (not horrible) and Triglycerides at 113.  I have a family history of high cholesterol (men and women) and heart disease in both grandfathers, as well as my father.  Is it all genetic? Am I destined for a heart attack within thin the next 10 to 20 years?  I say NOT, and feel a more heart healthy diet will help prevent further damage and even reverse some of the damage done. The diet approach is my preference as I’d like to take a proactive stance and do everything in my control to prevent further damage and be at the mercy of big pharma and prescription drugs.

To preface the inspiration of this blog, as well as the transition to a more heart healthy diet, I’d like to share a few documentaries my wife and I have been enthusiastically digesting on Netflix as of late. I’ll also be sharing online resources, apps, and other documentaries as I come across them in hopes they will help others.

To wrap up this first post, my intent will be to post daily to help you / the readers (dare I say community?) who may come across this blog, as well as help me maintain focus and stay accountable. However, with that, future posts will likely be shorter and to the point. Perhaps simple words of encouragement, links to helpful resources, etc.
